Measures to counter tropical storms

An appropriate manner of construction is absolutely essential in order for procedures taken to avoid damage to be successful. Therefore, construction regulations have been produced in some countries, requiring amongst other things that buildings in endangered areas be sturdily anchored into the ground. In the case of timber buildings, connection components must be reinforced using steel bands (hurricane straps). Storm shutters must be used as a precautionary measure on windows. In addition, windows and doors must have reinforced glass.

Protection cellars can protect people from the dangerous effects of tropical storms. Under no circumstances should one be out of doors during a tropical storm. Ever improving predictions of the path of tropical storms enable people to get to safety in time.
