Measures against tornadoes

The threat posed by tornadoes mainly arises from the associated high wind speeds. Parts of destroyed or damaged buildings which are carried along at extreme speeds by the wind can pose a threat to people outdoors. Hence, during tornadoes, it is best to seek shelter in a room on the lowest floor of a building – preferably one without windows. The best protection outdoors is provided by hollows in the ground.
