Flysch

Flysch consists of fine-grained sandstone shales and clay. It was the last layer to be included during the folding that formed the Alps (successive rhythmic deposits of layers of conglomerate, sandstones and slate), which were deposited over a developing mountain in deep sea basins, which were rapidly becoming narrower.
