Measures against low temperatures

The incidence of extreme cold spells is generally expected to decline with the progression of climate warming. However, mortality rates arising from extreme cold every winter remain 5%-30% higher in northern European countries than in southern ones. Thanks to general prosperity, measures to counteract the cold, such as well insulated houses, efficient heating systems and the availability of dry clothing, are well established in Switzerland.
