Homeowners

Media images from past natural hazard events show that the forces of nature are most devastating when they affect residential settlements and living space. Time and again, houses and infrastructure are destroyed or damaged by the effects of water, rocks and snow. In addition to the primary protection of human life, the avoidance or reduction of such damage is a declared objective of the natural hazard strategy.

A large proportion of the responsibility for risk protection is assigned to homeowners. The ways in which people’s homes and property can be protected against events such as landslides, floods, avalanches, earthquakes etc. must be identified with the help of hazard maps and in cooperation with insurance companies.
