Severe weather warnings for Europe from Meteoalarm.eu

On 23 March 2007 Eumetnet has launched a website which will allow the public to access severe weather warnings across Europe at a glance.

http://www.meteoalarm.eu/ is the web address for people who want to know where there are potentially dangerous weather situations in Europe. The website is an initiative of Eumetnet, the network of 21 national weather services, among which the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss.

Thanks to colour-coding and symbols, everyone can get a clear and up-to-date picture of weather risks such as heavy precipitation, strong winds, heat, drought etc. More specific information and proposed behaviour to avoid damages are accessible. Just click on the logo of the individual countries to visit the official national warning site. Infos are available in 17 languages and are meant for everyone in Europe, at home or abroad. The website is a useful source of information for emergency and rescue services as well as for the media.

By creating http://www.meteoalarm.eu/, Eumetnet addresses an issue which the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) rates very high: to prevent the loss of life and substantially reduce damage caused by severe weather.
