The study is the first to provide a comprehensive overview of the replacement values of environmental infrastructures (EIS) in Switzerland and on the estimated average financial requirements for the maintenance of the functional capabilities of the EIS. Environmental infrastructure includes all buildings and installations concerned with waste disposal, noise protection, air pollution, water and wastewater, species management and natural hazards that protect the environment against the negative effects of humankind and humankind against the dangers posed by the environment. In this study, both public and private environmental infrastructures are considered. The concluding part of
the study addresses the economic significance of EIS for businesses, households and the economy as a whole.
